2013 AGM
Saint John, New Brunswick
Hosed by the New Brunswick Museum

APAGA/AGAPA’s 2013 AGM, East of There, was held in Saint John, New Brunswick from June 20 to 23 and hosted by the New Brunswick Museum. We were pleased to partner with the Sheila Mackay Foundation to present the Jack Weldon Humphrey Forum, Issues of Regionalism in Canadian Art. Other partners included the regional and national organizations representing artist-run centres (AARCA and ARCA) and the Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones (AGAFV).

Session One of the forum looked at the regional ecosystem of presenting art in Atlantic Canada and featured speakers, Ray Cronin, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia; Terry Graff, Beaverbrook Art Gallery; Kevin Rice, Confederation Centre Art Gallery; Peter Dykhuis, President of the University and College Art Gallery Association of Canada; Andrew Kiersted, who discussed community art galleries; and John Murchie who represented artist-run centres.

Session Two was titled Cachet or Curse? Regionalism in Canadian Art and featured Salon editor, Mike Landry; Leopold L. Foulem, artist; J.J. Kegan McFadden, writer, publisher, curator and artist based in Winnipeg; Amish Morrell, editor of C Magazine; and Anne Bertrand, Director of the Artist-Run Centres and Collectives Conference (ARCA).

The AGM also featured A Forum on Independent Publishing organized by ARCA.

2006 AGM
Halifax, NS
Hosted by the Dalhousie Art Gallery

The Dalhousie Art Gallery hosted the APAGA/AGAPA Annual General Meeting and professional sessions in Halifax May 11 to 13 2006. Our meetings and sessions were surrounded with festivities in Halifax as the Dalhousie Art Gallery opened its new exhibition entitled “Back/Flash” featuring multimedia work by 6 First Nations’ artists on Thursday evening May 11. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia also hosted the annual meetings of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts highlighted with the opening reception on Friday evening May 12 of the exhibition Vernissage: New Members’ Work.

As with the past few years, the APAGA Executive, in concert with the host gallery of the AGM, developed panel discussions and professional presentations relevant to our membership. This year’s program was no exception with the following items on the program:
